Picture of Rebecca Irvine"My name is Becci Irvine; I am the Aimhigher officer for the West of Norfolk. I work with schools and sixth forms in the rural and fenland areas of Norfolk such as, Terrington, Marshland, Methwold and Wayland, alongside the coastal region of Hunstanton and the market town of King’s Lynn.

"The area is primarily agricultural, with a declining food processing industry. King’s Lynn and the surrounding area has sporadic hot spots of deprivation, with three wards in King’s Lynn ranking within the top 10% of most deprived wards in England. Levels of educational attainment and aspiration are also below county and regional averages.

"I am keen to offer a comprehensive range of sustainable, educational, and aspiration raising activities to students aged 14-19 across the region. I am currently working with schools across West Norfolk to organise a range of enrichment activities, varying from Higher Education campus tours and trips, master classes in specific subjects and vocational taster days, in the creative and outdoor industries. Alongside the menu of activities which is available to all schools, I am keen to hear of any new suggestions for HE inspired activities or projects that Aimhigher can help facilitate for 2007 and into the future.

"I was appointed as Aimhigher officer in September 2006 after returning from working in a children’s activity camp, where I loved teaching kayaking, rock climbing and sailing in the South of France. Before heading out to France, I proudly graduated with a 2:1 from Nottingham Trent University where I studied BA Human Services. Studying at degree level in Nottingham was a challenging but ultimately satisfying experience. I made great friends, had a hectic but Picture of King's Lynn town centreexciting social life, learned to live on my own and prepared myself for having to manage my finances later in life. I am originally from Peterborough, but have lived and studied in King’s Lynn for over 15 years. Having had such a positive experience of higher education, I was particularly keen to come back to Norfolk to inform other students of some of the great benefits of continuing education and of all the exciting opportunities that are available to grab hold of in the future!"
