Lots of people from all high school year groups entered the competition last year. "We had some fantastic images to choose from", said Lorraine Sturman of Aimhigher Norfolk, "and choosing the winners was quite hard! When deciding which ones to include we had to take into account not just the quality of the picture itself, but how well it reflected some aspect of Norfolk...we also needed to find pictures which would best represent the changing seasons".
From those selected for publication, five of the 13 winners attended either Fakenham High School or Fakenham College. Thrilled with their success the school organised a visit to Norwich School of Art and Design (NSAD) to visit the photographic studio there. They were also shown a selection of work produced by NSAD students.
Jo Stone at the school also made contact with a local photographer who looked at the photos and made helpful comments and critique on each print which were read to the students to help inspire them to continue with photography, whether this is as a hobby or indeed a future course or career they may wish to follow in the future.
Whilst at NSAD, canvas prints of the photographs published were presented to each students, see picture. The students and their family members who also attended the visit, were then taken to the Forum where the prints of all of the calendar entries were on display.
When asked for comments on the competition and the prints presented to them the response was "It's Brilliant", "I was excited when I heard I had won" and also one of the mothers said "I'm jealous as it was my camera they used. I am over the moon".
